Early voting underway

Early voting for the Nov. 7 General Election is now underway at three locations.

Early voting is available on weekdays at the Fairfax County Government Center in Fairfax (8:30-4 p.m.), the Mount Vernon Government Center in Alexandria (1-7 p.m.), and the North County Government Center in Reston (1-7 p.m.). All three locations are open on three Saturdays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

An additional 13 early voting sites will open on Oct. 26, including the Mason Government Center and Thomas Jefferson Library. The last day to vote early is Nov. 4.

The following local and state offices are on the ballot [* indicates incumbent].

Fairfax County Board of Supervisors chair – Jeffrey McKay* (D), Arthur Purves (R).

All members of the Board of Supervisors, including:

  • Mason District – Andres Jimenez (D), Terrence Modglin (I).
  • Braddock District – James Walkinshaw* (D), Carey Campbell (Independent Green).

All members of the Fairfax County School Board, including:

  • Mason District – Ricardy Anderson* (endorsed by the Fairfax County Democratic Committee), Kristin Ball (endorsed by the Fairfax County Republican Committee).
  • Braddock District – Rachna Sizemore Heizer (currently an at-large school board member, endorsed by the Democratic Committee), Priscilla DeStefano (endorsed by the Republican Committee).
  • At-large school board members – Ilryong Moon, Kyle McDaniel, and Ryan McElveen are endorsed by the Democratic Committee. Cassandra Aucoin, Maureen Brody, and Saundra Davis are endorsed by the Republican Committee. Other candidates include Linda Pellegrino, Peter Gabor, and Ahmed Hussein.

Commonwealth’s Attorney – Steve Descano* (D) is unopposed.

Clerk of the Court – Chris Falcon (D), Gerarda Culipher (R).

Sheriff – Stacey Kincaid* (D), Jerry McMillian (I), Chris DeCarlo (I),

All members of the Virginia House of Delegates, including:

  • District 13 – Marcus Simon* (D), Dave Crance (Libertarian).
  • District 14 – Vivian Watts* (D), Curtis Wells (R).
  • District 3 – Alfonso Lopez* (D), Mike Webb (I).

All members of the Virginia Senate, including:

  • District 35 – Dave Marsden* (D), Mark Vafiades (R).
  • District 37 – Saddam Salim (D), Ken Reid (R).
  • District 39 – Adam Ebbin* (D), Sophia Moshasha (R).

All members of the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District:

Chris Koerner*, Rhonda Bitterli, and Dana Barakat are endorsed by the Democratic Committee. Mell Flynn and Deb Maddrell are endorsed by the Republican Committee.

There is also a $435 million public school bond on the ballot. The bond would fund renovations at seven elementary schools; planning and designing renovations at eight elementary schools, including Bren Mar Park ES in Mason District; and security vestibules at more than 25 schools.

The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 7 election without a provisional ballot is Oct. 16, 5 p.m. Register online here.

Due to a new state law, voters must now include the last four digits of their Social Security number and birth year on the return envelope for the vote-by-mail ballot.

Any registered voter can vote early by mail without having to state a reason. If you order a ballot by mail, you can either mail it back or put it in a drop-off box at any early voting site during the hours they’re open. 

There is a 24-hour secure, drop box outside the Fairfax County Government Center.

Voters don’t have to bring a photo ID to the polls, but do need to bring a form of identification, such as a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government document with the voter’s name and address, or driver’s license (even an expired one).
