Explore a park: Crossroads Interim Park
This article is part of our Explore a Park series on parks in the Annandale/Mason District area.
Crossroads Interim Park, at 5831 Columbia Pike, in Bailey’s Crossroads, was established as a temporary gathering spot on county-owned land that will eventually be redeveloped. It opened in September 2019.
Features: The 2.9-acre site has a plaza area with metal tables, benches, shade sails, and landscaping. The area at the rear of the property is undeveloped.
Access: Crossroads Interim Park is between Radley Acura and the future Alta Crossroads apartments. There is a parking lot with an entrance on Columbia Pike.
History: The park is on the site of an office building that was torn down in 2018 to make way for new development. Rather than leave the site vacant for years, the Fairfax County Community Revitalization Section, the Park Authority, and other county agencies opened the Crossroads Interim Park with $125,000 from the county’s economic sustainability fund.
The county acquired the property in 2017 in a land swap with the owner of the adjacent parcel, where ground was broken for Alta Crossroads in March 2023.
In July 2023, the Board of Supervisors proposed transferring the property to the Fairfax County Housing and Redevelopment Authority for the development of a multifamily affordable housing development with a childcare center. Future plans also call for the extension of Seminary Road through that area.
