Fairfax County hosts back-to-school fair
Dozens of children are ready for the first day of school on Aug. 19 thanks to a school resource fair hosted by the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services with help from lots of volunteers.
The event, at the James Lee Community Center on Aug. 1, featured school supply giveaways, arts and crafts, free haircuts by SportClips of Vienna, face painting, and free food donated by SevaTruck.
The Asian American Community Center, James Lee Advisory Council, Mr. Mike and Ms. Rondolyn, the King Tyre Masonic Lodge, Evening Star, and the English Empowerment Center also supported the event.
More than 202 backpacks were delivered with pencil boxes, pencils, notebooks, folders, and scissors for K-8 students and pencils, binders, paper, and pens for teens.
Students from Beech Tree, Westlawn, and Timber Lane elementary schools; Luther Jackson and Glasgow middle schools; and Justice and Falls Church High School were invited to the event.
