Fairfax County property taxes due Friday

Fairfax County property taxes are due Friday, Aug. 28.

That’s a month later than usual, as the Board of Supervisors approved a one-month delay to accommodate people facing hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The board also reduced the late fees for taxes. For 2020 only, the penalty for late payment is 5 percent, rather than 10 percent.

There are several ways to pay taxes:

  • Sign in to MyFairfax to pay online. For real estate taxes, you will need this year’s stub number from your real estate tax bill. If you don’t have it, call the Department of Tax Administration, 703-222-8234. A third-party processing fee is assessed for credit and debit card payments. There is no charge for e-check payments.
  • Pay by phone using Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express. Call 703-222-6740 (24 hours a day, seven days a week). There will be a processing fee.
  • Use your phone to scan the QR code on your tax bill.
  • Use a mobile app. Download the Fairfax County Government app from Google Play or the Apple store. Click on the services icon, select the type of tax you want to pay, and follow the instructions.
  • Pay by mail. Make the check payable to County of Fairfax. Send to: Department of Tax Administration, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 223, Fairfax, VA 22035.
  • Pay in person at the Fairfax County Government Center, Suite 223. It’s open weekdays 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. and until 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
