The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on June 23 authorized four bond referenda totaling $441 million for this fall’s general election.
A $90 million library bond includes $15 million for improvements at George Mason Regional Library in Annandale and upgrades at three other libraries.
A $112 million park bond includes $100 million to support park renovations and upgrades for athletic fields and RECenters (including Audrey Moore and Providence), land acquisition to expand parks, natural and cultural resource stewardship, park improvements (including Dowden Terrace) and new park development.
The remaining $12 million would fund the county’s share for the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority’s capital program and would focus on expanding public open space and trails; protecting natural, cultural, and historic resources; improving existing facilities; and providing additional recreational opportunities.
A $160 million transportation bond would cover the county’s share of capital improvements sought by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, including new Metrorail cars, new buses, power upgrades for Metro, and improvements to Metro stations.
A $79 million community and health and human services bond includes $21 million to renovate the Crossroads residential treatment center for substance abuse and $58 million to renovate or relocate the Joseph Willard Health Center in Fairfax.
