Fairfax Federation hears BRAC update from county Chair Bulova
Fairfax County Board Chair Sharon Bulova told community leaders June 16 she is pushing VDOT to expedite the development of a new off-ramp from the I-395 HOV lanes to the Mark Center.
Bulova was the keynote speaker at the annual picnic of the Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Associations at the Packard Center in Annandale. She said VDOT’s requirement for a complete environmental assessment for the project, which would take 18 months, is unnecessary, and a less extensive review could be done much faster.
Completion of the new ramp will still take three or four years, Bulova said. Meanwhile, approximately 6,400 Defense Department employees are scheduled to move in to the Mark Center in September, although it’s possible the move could be delayed or phased in.
The federation meeting also featured the installation of new officers: President – Tania Hossain, First Vice President – Donald Hinman, Second Vice President – Joe Gibson, Treasurer – Scott Schlegel, Recording Secretary – Ed Wyse, and Corresponding Secretary- Fred Costello. None of the officers are from communities in the Mason District.
