Falls Church HS renovation moving forward
A rendering of how Falls Church High School could look after renovation. |
Fairfax County Public Schools officials presented an update on the Falls Church High School renovation project at a community meeting last week.
The project includes a new auxiliary gym and an expansion of the existing gym; new physical education rooms; and a new music suite, library, lecture hall, and science labs. The cafeteria will be expanded. Nursing and dental labs will be added to the academy wing.
The entire school will have new floor finishes, walls, ceilings, doors, and windows.
There will also be new safety measures, including sprinkler systems, fire alarms, door access systems; new mechanical and plumbing systems; new lighting; and new data and telephone systems. The kiss-and ride and bus drop-off areas will have improved circulation.
Planning and design costs were covered by a school bond passed by voters in 2017. Funding for construction will be included in a bond referendum on the 2021 ballot.
Interesting choices of flags in the simulation
Those are the flags they currently have in front of the school
I'm sure it will be very nice when it's done. Unfortunately, FCPS planning is incoherent, and there's no explanation as to how spending over $130 million on a single high schools (Falls Church HS) will delay renovations of, and additions to, other schools. But FCPS would rather put a lot of money in the pockets of contractors for one shiny renovation than address the capacity needs of all its schools.
I would normally agree with this and I wish there was more transparency from the system. I think Falls Church HS is an exception if you have stepped foot inside the building. Science labs are dated/not working, AC/heating doesn't work in a majority of the building, ceilings tiles are falling, and the building when in full operation is overcapacity. This is just naming a few of the issues while other HS in the county aren't suffering from this many issues, they have been waiting multiple decades for this.
Its time to add that too many kids tax. You want a bunch of kids and a good education for them…pay up or put you sex drives to rest.
Totally agree. And for those who don't have kids, time to put up that prohibition to receive social security that will be funded by those same kids. or fund kids not schools.
