Families with school-age children are invited to take part in “Give Together,” a day of service hosted by Volunteer Fairfax at the Pozez Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia in Annandale.

The free event, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, is aimed at bringing families together to work on projects that benefit the community. The JCC is at 8900 Little River Turnpike. Sign up here.

Participants can work on such projects as creating Valentine’s cards for youths in foster care, preparing cat adoption kits, assembling snack packs for food-insecure children, and creating fleece lap blankets for veterans.

This event fills up fast, so Volunteer Fairfax recommends families register early for the time slot they want. The event is aimed at children ages 5-12 and their parents. Teens can register as a “teen event volunteer.”

Volunteer Fairfax hopes Give Together will foster a legacy of volunteerism among youths. “Volunteering teaches values that parents work so diligently to instill in their children – values such as selflessness, responsibility, and gratitude,” says Volunteer Fairfax CEO Steve Mutty.
