Families prepare for school at the Bailey’s Crossroads school resource fair
Bailey’s Crossroads kids and their parents are ready for the start of the school year, thanks to a school resource fair Aug. 12 at the Bailey’s Community Center.
The kids got free school supplies, while parents learned about resources available from dozens of county agencies and local organizations.
The event was organized by the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services. The NCS hosted similar events at other community centers, including one last week at the James Lee Community Center.
The school supplies were donated by Second Story, Target, the Bailey’s Community Center’s advisory board, and the Crossroads Riders motorcycle club, said Bryan Linton, director of the community center.
Representatives from Fairfax County Public Schools provided information on kindergarten registration, required immunizations, and everything families need to know before the first day of school on Aug. 21.
The Mason Police District brought a police car for kids to sit in, and the Sheriff’s Office registered kids for the Child ID program.
