FCPS considers new boundary scenarios for the Glasgow pyramid

When the Fairfax County School Board approved a comprehensive boundary revision last January, a proposal affecting the Glasgow Middle School pyramid was paused, pending further study.
The previous proposal, which would have created split feeders at Beech Tree and Belvedere elementary schools, faced strong opposition from the community.
FCPS staff presented four new boundary options at recent community meetings, including the most recent meeting on Oct. 5 at Glasgow.
The only Student Planning Area affected by any of the scenarios is SPA 5002, which is located west of Annandale Road and includes residences on W. Cameron Road, Trammell Road, Summerfield Road, and other nearby streets. Find your SPA here.

The draft scenarios presented to the community include the following:
4A – This option would not change any school boundaries in Mason District. SPA 5021 would be moved from Pine Spring Elementary School to Timber Lane Elementary School.
4B – Part of SPA 5002 would be reassigned from Beech Tree ES to Timber Lane, affecting an estimated 11 students. SPA 5021 would move from Pine Spring to Timber Lane, part of SPA 5017 would move from Timber Lane to Graham Road ES, and part of SPA 5004 would move from Graham Road to Timber Lane.
Also under 4B, part of SPA 5002 would move from Glasgow Middle School to Jackson Middle School, affecting about three students. Part of SPA 5002 would move from Justice High School to Falls Church High School, affecting about four students.
4C – Part of SPA 5002, affecting about 11 students, would be reassigned from Beech Tree to Graham Road. SPA 5021 would move from Pine Spring to Graham Road.
Part of SPA 5002 would move from Glasgow MS to Jackson MS, affecting three students, and part of SPA 5002 would move from Justice HS to Falls Church HS, affecting four students.
4D – Elementary school and middle school boundary changes would be the same as 4B, including moving part of 5002 from Beech Tree to Timber Lane and moving part of 5002 from Glasgow to Jackson.
The only difference would be that part of SPA 5002 would move from Justice to Falls Church, affecting about four students.
During October and November, FCPS staff will recommend one of the options to the school board, or a combination of one or more of the scenarios. The school board is scheduled to hold a hearing and make a decision in January. Â
