FCPS names Bailey’s assistant principal Outstanding School-Based Leader

Tricia Wayland, the assistant principal at Bailey’s Upper Elementary School, was named 2026 Outstanding School-Based Leader at Fairfax County Public Schools’ Honors ceremony earlier this month.

“Tricia is a proud FCPS graduate whose leadership reflects a deep and lasting commitment to her school community,” the program for the Honors Recognition Ceremony states. “She brings a thoughtful balance of organization and heart to her work, helping ensure the school operates smoothly and efficiently each day.”

Wayland is one of several educators and employees from the Mason District/Annandale area recognized at the ceremony, held at the George Mason University Center for the Arts.

Two Mason District principals were finalists for the Outstanding Principal Award:

Finalists for the Outstanding Secondary School New Teacher award included:

  • Emily Grimes, an English teacher at Glasgow, and
  • Rachel Pryately, a health and physical education teacher at Holmes Middle School.

Outstanding Elementary School Teacher finalists included:

  • Kimberley Mathews, a multilingual language teacher at Mason Crest Elementary School, and
  • Rosemary Nevin, a second-grade teacher at Columbia Elementary School.

Wilson Harvey, a counselor at Justice High School, was a finalist for the Outstanding School-Based Professional Employee award.

Sherryanne Sooknanan, a school finance assistant at Braddock Elementary School, was a finalist for the Outstanding School-Based Operational Employee award.
