Fireworks: Where to see them
What’s the Fourth of July without a fireworks show?
The City of Falls Church fireworks display, which usually draws lots of spectators from the Annandale/Mason District area, isn’t happening this year, due to construction at Meridian High School (formerly George Mason High School). Instead, Falls Church is hosting a “Declaration Celebration,” with an Independence Day-themed scavenger hunt, followed by free live music in Cherry Hill Park.
Here are some other spots for viewing the explosions in the sky on Independence Day or even earlier:
- Fireworks on the National Mall in D.C. will start at 9:09 p.m. on July 4. Road closures will be in effect all day. The Capitol Fourth Concert will again be prerecorded and virtual.
- Lake Fairfax is hosting fireworks on July 3, beginning around 9 p.m. Advance tickets are available through July 2 for $10 per car. Tickets at the event are $15. Lake Fairfax is at 1400 Lake Fairfax Drive in Reston.
- The City of Fairfax is hosting a fireworks show at Fairfax High School, 3501 Lion Run, at 9:30 p.m. on July 4. There will be live music starting at 6:30 p.m. and after the fireworks show. In addition, the City of Fairfax is holding an Independence Day Parade on July 3, 10 a.m.-noon.
- The Town of Vienna’s fireworks show starts at about 9:30 p.m. on July 4 at Yeonas Park, 1319 Ross Drive.
- The City of Herndon is hosting fireworks at Bready Park, 814 Ferndale Ave., at 9:30 p.m. on July 4. There will be no food concessions or entertainment this year.
- There will be a July 4 fireworks show at Turner Farm Park in Great Falls when it gets dark. Other activities on July 4 include a 5K run, parade, food, and children’s entertainment at the Great Falls Village Green.
- There will be a fireworks show July 2 at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton. Live entertainment begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are required; tickets are $40 to $110.
- The annual American Celebration at Mount Vernon, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on July 4, is already sold out. But it might be possible to catch a glimpse of the daytime fireworks over the Potomac at 1 p.m.
