Fish and Wildlife Service moving to Skyline Center next summer

The federal Fish and Wildlife Service’s move from Ballston to the Skyline Center could be a huge boost to revitalization efforts in Bailey’s Crossroads.

About 800 employees are expected to move into a 183,000-square foot space at Seven Skyline Place at 5275 Leesburg Pike in the summer of 2014, the Washington Business Journal reports.

Vornado Realty Trust has been trying to find a tenant for that space since the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency consolidated several offices and moved to Fort Meade, Md., as part of the military’s Base Realignment and Closure plan in 2005.

According to the article, the General Services Administration estimates the Fish and Wildlife’s consolidation from three buildings in Ballston should save the government more than $3.8 million over the course of the 15-year lease. The agency will occupy 72,200 fewer square feet at a rate that is nearly $6 per square foot cheaper than its current office space.
