Free Korean language class for adults this Saturday in Annandale

Oxford Academy of Annandale is launching its first Korean language class for adults using K-Pop (Korean popular) culture with a free class this Saturday, Oct. 6, 4- p.m., 7700 Little River Turnpike, Suite 301.

Oxford primarily works to enhance the English speaking, reading, and writing skills of children and youths, with a focus on helping first-generation Korean students.

“Korean Language Gangnam Style for Beginners,” is Oxford’s first foray into working with adult learners to provide awareness of the Korean culture. The class will use Korean recording artist Psy’s international chart-topping hit, “Gangnam Style,” to help people learn the Korean language in a fun and quick way.

“I am excited that K-pop is getting greater international recognition and can be used as a creative tool to educate others about different aspects of the Korean culture,” said Soo Yee, who founded Oxford Academy of Annandale in 2005 and serves as the school’s executive director.

The teacher, Master Kim, worked at the Defense Language Institute in California and taught Korean to diplomats and government officials. After taking the free class this Saturday, people can sign up for a 12-week course. Classes will be held every Saturday, 4-6 p.m., for $50 per class.
