Mason summer concerts begin June 1
Vietnamese Cultural Night at Ossian Hall Park last summer. |
Free summer concerts start this weekend at two locations in the Mason District: Mason District Park and Ossian Hall Park.
The Spotlight by Starlight concert series opens in Mason District Park Sunday, June 2, with the City of Fairfax Concert Band. There will be shows Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays throughout the summer in the wooded amphitheater, starting at 7:30 p.m. The concerts feature all types of music, including rock, county, bluegrass, jazz, swing, and more. There’s usually plenty of seating on the backless benches, but you might want to bring your own more comfortable chairs.
Several Saturday morning children’s performances are scheduled throughout the summer at 10 a.m., beginning June 29 with the Nicolo Whimsey Show, featuring music and juggling.
Nearly all of the Saturday evening shows at Ossian Hall Park, next to Annandale High School, showcase a different cultural heritage. The season opens June 1, 7:30 p.m., with Taiwanese Cultural Night. Among the other countries featured at Ossian this year are Bulgaria, India, Bolivia, Peru, and Ireland.
Visit the Fairfax County Park Authority website for the full summer entertainment schedule. The concerts are canceled if it’s raining. If it looks like rain, call 703/324-7469 before heading out.
