Free Movie Night this Saturday in Annandale

Kids make origami creations at a previous event at the Eileen Garnett Civic Space.

Families are invited to enjoy a free outdoor movie on the lawn at the Eileen Garnett Civic Space this Saturday, July 13, at 8 p.m.

The park is located at 7200 Columbia Pike in central Annandale.

The movie is “Rio,” from 2011. It’s about the adventures of a domesticated macaw who follows the bird of his dreams from Minnesota to Rio de Janeiro.

Bring a blanket and a takeout meal and enjoy free popcorn. Ice cream will be available to purchase.

The weather is expected to be cooler, so it should be a perfect night to enjoy a movie under the stars.

Movie Night is part of a series of events at the Eileen Garnett park hosted by the Community Revitalization Section of Fairfax County’s Department of Planning and Development.

The next free event, on July 27, celebrates the joy of dogs.

The Dog Days of Summer, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Eileen Garnett Civic Space features doggy games, a dog costume contest, treats, toys, and vendors, plus a yappy hour with refreshments for humans.

Sign up for the costume contest here.

All dogs must be leashed and must have valid licenses and up-to-date vaccinations. Humans must use poop bags.

The Community Revitalization Section is hosting an art appreciation event on Aug. 17. And on Sept. 21, the Taste of Annandale will be held at the Eileen Garnett Civic Space.
