Girls are invited to hone their athletic skills, get fit, and have fun by joining the Northern Virginia Girls Softball Association.

The NVGSA is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The league encourages families to sign up and “experience the dynamic, empowering environment that has shaped thousands of young athletes.”

Registration is currently underway for the spring season for the league’s recreational softball program and its more competitive Dimensions program. Opening day is April 5.

NVGSA is divided into two geographic divisions. Teams in the west division typically practice at Wakefield Forest Elementary School and Wakefield Park in Annandale and Kings Park in Springfield. The east division is based at Wilton Woods Center and Clermont Park in Alexandria.

The recreational program has five categories: age 6 and under, U8, U10, U12, and U18.

Dimensions, an intermediate program between recreational and travel softball, offers U10, U12, and U18 teams.

The league also offers eight competitive Firebirds fastpitch softball travel teams. Those teams have limited slots for the 2025 season.

NVGSA is one of the few softball organizations in Fairfax County with three levels of play in the same organization. It also fields more U18 teams than any other league in the area.

Many NVGSA athletes have gone on to excel on their high school and college teams. Alumni have played softball at Columbia University, the Coast Guard Academy, George Mason University, Radford University, the University of Mary Washington, and others.

“We’re incredibly proud of the impact our league has had over the past 30 years,” says NVGSA President Tom Meyer. “Our success is a direct result of our coaches, volunteers, players, and families, all of whom have contributed to making NVGSA a supportive environment for young athletes.”
