CPD rules prohibit boats, RVs, trailers, vehicles weighing
12,000 pounds or more, vehicles with three or more axles, and vehicles
transporting 16 or more people (except school buses) on public streets in residential areas. Owners of vehicles found to be in violation can be fined $75 and the
vehicle can be towed.

passengers, performing work, or providing services; and vehicles temporarily parked

What? Please clarify, is this to have MORE trucks
to be parked on RESIDENTIAL streets? For MORE vehicles to be parked somewhere on RESIDENTIAL streets in Mason District (Annandale, AMERICANA DR.) than there are already now?

If this gets the rotting pile of boat, with 2 tree's growing out of it parked on my street towed away I am all for it 100%. I suggest towing it to an incinerator.

The rest of us will be inundated with the outlawed vehicles moved onto our streets and we will be able to do nothing about them because she doesn't give a sh** about the rest of us. I agree with you. Casting negative aspersions on an elected official without providing any basis in fact is cheap and easy. This is one reason why many people would never run for elected office.
I would also note that no elected official I am aware of is above these types of attacks regardless of their political party. Morover, it is not sexist or racist to criticize any elected official, except when the criticism is based on their gender or skin color rather than on their performance in office.

Sure they can do that but it can only be there for 48 hours then its tow time.
Maybe not 48 hours but if that truck doesn't move it can be tagged as abandoned. Either way it can't just sit there forever.
Not a bad idea. We will need a large garage if we revitalize Baileys X-roads according to plans into a mixed use area so people not able walk or use transit to the area can visit retail and restaurants. If and when that happens, perhaps in my lifetime and I'm 39.
What about those of us who are not represented by a community association? As far as I know, I am not represented by one, but would NOT appreciate boats and other undesirables being parked on my street.

Other large area CPDs in the county include all residential streets whether there is an HOA or not
This parking district will turn into the new Pep Boys parking lot in no time. People will do repair work there with little regard to the clean up. Why change your oil on your property and risk and oil stain you will have to clean up? Do it here instead and just leave your waste behind. It will also turn into a long-term parking dump for people who are too cheap to pay to house their own property.
If you have a boat or a large commercial vehicle and can't pay to have it stored someplace, you have no business owning it. Your business wouldn't tolerate me leaving my personal vehicle in your company parking lot long-term, why should people provide you with free parking either here or on their streets?
A large area CPD means that ALL of Mason District would not allow boats, RVs and trailers to be parked on the streets in the entire district I hope. It's unclear if only part of Mason District can be designated as a CPD based on a supervisor's application.
The problem will still be enforcement. People will just use this place as long-term storage for junk and dilapidated vehicles. Mr. Junk can leave his old boat and his 1985 Ford Oil Leak here. There needs to be serious enforcement or this place will be a collection of hot mess in a centralized location.
Precisely. The wording from the Fairfax County Website on CPDs leaves a lot to be desired: "Vehicles parked in violation are subject to a $75 fine for each violation and may be towed at the owner’s expense."

This is not about creating a single, central parking area. A Community Parking District (CPD) means that people cannot put their boats, RVs and trailers on any street in Mason District. They must park them in their driveway, park outside of Mason District, or pay for storage elsewhere. It is not a central location/parking lot.
This is more over-regulation from Penny Gross and Fairfax County. More government involvement is not the answer to every problem and definitely not the answer here. Neighborhoods work better when people mind their own business and don't try to tell their neighbors what to do.
The problem people don't care and don't give a damn about their neighbors. This is not over regulation. Why don't you go live in Iraq where there is no regulation and you can live in a tent in the middle of a dirt road and have coffee with ISIS.
Neighborhoods are made up of people who agree to live together and in harmony by allowing the government to control the shared areas. If an individual does not agree they can move to the country and live as they choose. Inability to follow rules and regulations is a problem only when someone refuses to follow them.

When its my property that I have worked hard on, paid for with my blood, sweat and tears and have a high level of respect that is being effected by the neighbor that has zero regard for others and only themselves I have a problem. Mind ones own business is just another way of asking for society to look beyond and away from their inability to do the right thing and follow simple child-like rules and standards.
On one hand, keeping watercraft, boat trailers, motor homes, trailers, semi-trailers buses and so on off residential streets in Mason District makes sense. It is Fairfax County Code 82-5B that has process that can be used to create a Community Parking District. But there are questions.

Application fees shall be returned if the area fails to qualify for the establishment, expansion, modification, or abolition of a Community Parking District."
Does that mean each house has to pay the $10 fee to be considered and included?
For the two processes, establishment or modification by petition or by application, why would anyone ever do by petition if it costs petitioners and each property address money?
Code says “Large area means all of a magisterial district, excluding certain areas that meet minimum size requirements.” So does that mean all of the Mason District?
Code says "All requests for the creation of a Community Parking District [by application] for a large area shall meet the following criteria: (1) An initial submission identifying the requested perimeter shall be directed to the appropriate district supervisor." So how can a supervisor make a request by application if the request goes to the appropriate district supervisor?
Violations are fine of $75.00 each to the person, and towing at the owner's expense is allowed. There is reference to signs that designate a CPD erected by the County, and there is reference to large area CPD without signage. How would you feel about a $75 fine or a tow without signs being provided? If signs are provided, for all of the Mason District, there is a cost to install and maintain that many signs.
I own a boat and use it regularly for work. I just lost my parking spot on Minor Lane as FCPS took over that stretch. It's harder and harder for me to keep my boat stored on a street around here as streets are becoming posted due to boats being too large, an eyesore, or seemingly abandoned. My old boat was totaled last year when it was parked on a street and hit by a drunk. Too bad I can't park it in the off Kmart lot by the Shell where all the vans and cars with flat tires are parked. Or maybe we can park them in the doomed restaurant lot of Gagnam Sushi.
