Groups formed to continue discussions on future of Seven Corners

Route 50 at Seven Corners
The Fairfax County Office of Community Revitalization is
forming three groups to continue the discussions on the future of Seven
Corners, following two “visioning workshops” last spring.
A Land Use and Transportation Task Force will review the
history of the Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan for the Seven Corners area and
develop recommendations to guide future development, with an emphasis on land
use and transportation. Its first meeting is scheduled for Sept. 11, 7 p.m., in
the main community room of the Mason District Government Center, 6507 Columbia
Pike, Annandale.
A Quality of Life Work Group will identify issues and
explore possible solutions for addressing more immediate quality of life
issues, such as health, safety, and cleanliness. This group will meet Sept. 11,
7 p.m. in the small conference room of the Mason District Government Center.

A Connectivity Work Group will review overall pedestrian,
bicycle, and transit connectivity in the area and develop recommendations for
short-term action or recommendations for longer-term efforts that could be incorporated
into the task force efforts. It will meet Sept. 18, 6:30 p.m., in the Mason
District Government Center’s main community room.

Letters of invitation for the task force and working group
members are expected  to be sent out in
early September. All of the meetings are open to the public.
At the visioning workshops, local residents spoke about the
need to address traffic congestion at Seven Corners, make the area easier to
navigate for pedestrians and bicyclists, retain affordable housing, encourage
new mixed-use development, take immediate action against litter and
illegal signs, and much more. Presentations and summaries of participants’ comments from those sessions are online.
