Harlem Wizards coming to Stuart High School

The Harlem Wizards

Can a rag-tag team from the JEB High School community beat the “world-famous Harlem Wizards,” a basketball team focused on entertaining the crowd with tricks and alley-oops?

The game, a fundraiser for the Stuart Athletic Boosters, is Feb. 9, 7 p.m., in the school gym.

The Harlem Wizards have some skills, but the RaiderBallers promise to give them a run for the money. The team stars Glasgow Middle School Principal Shawn DeRose, a former basketball coach. The team includes six Stuart teachers, faculty and staff from nearly all the schools in the Stuart pyramid, Stuart alumni, and community members.

During the morning of the big game, a Stuart administrator and two players from the Harlem Wizards are scheduled to discuss the event live on ABC’s Good Morning Washington.

“This is a great event for our community and is an important fundraiser for our student athletes,” said Campbell Palmer, president of the Stuart boosters club.

Palmer urges the community to buy tickets in advance, as seating is limited. Tickets are on sale at the JEB Stuart athletic office or on the “schedule and  tickets” section on the Wizards website. Choose Feb. 9.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students if purchased in advance and $18 and $15 at the door.
