Inova gets a $10 million gift
Inova Health System has received a $10 million planned gift commitment from Win Sheridan, co-founder of Apex Systems, an information technology consulting company.
The gift will be applied toward Inova’s Greatest Needs fund, which is disbursed at the discretion of CEO Dr. J. Stephen Jones for critical projects and initiatives.
The Greatest Needs fund is supporting the $161 million expansion of Inova Fairfax Hospital’s emergency department, which is facing a surge in patient volume.

Sheridan says he was inspired by Inova’s commitment to innovation and making cutting-edge therapies accessible.
“When you’re battling a serious disease, having world-class care that you don’t have to travel for makes all the difference,” he says. “At the end of the day, I want Inova to continue providing the best possible care, if and when it’s needed by me, by my family, my friends, my community.”
Sheridan was also motivated by the $75 million gift to Inova by Dwight and Martha Schar in May 2023 for the renamed Inova Schar Heart and Vascular center. The Schars issued a challenge to the community to match their investment in the following year.
In 2021, Sheridan donated $1 million to endow the position of director of the Molecular Tumor Board at the Inova Schar Cancer Institute. The tumor board helps patients with rare or recurring cancers receive personalized treatment.
Thank you. INOVA Fairfax has been an incredible, life-saving facility for myself and many in my large family😊 Most memorable was my having a kidney transplant in 2015. That department is phenomenal and I will forever be grateful for the care I received

INOVA is important to the community but it’s not a good neighbor. I hope these funds don’t go to the managers!
