Inova Health System and its Inova Schar Cancer Institute announced plans to open a new cancer screening and prevention
center on the campus of the Inova Center for Personalized Health in fall 2021.
The new 24,000-square-foot center will provide life-saving
services for these types of cancers: prostate, bladder, pancreatic, colorectal,
breast, lung, head and neck, cervical, uterine, ovarian, and melanoma, as well
as genetic risk screening.
Paul and Linda Saville donated $20 million for
the new cancer center. Paul Saville is president and CEO of NVR Inc., the
parent company of NVHomes, Ryan Homes, and other real estate companies.
“We’ve all been impacted by cancer, and many of
us know someone who has died from cancer due to a late diagnosis,” said Paul
Saville. “We hope that many more people will have access to early detection and
treatment and avoid serious disease.”
“The Savilles’ commitment to help us create a state-of-the-art
early detection and prevention center is bringing us a giant step closer to
becoming the leading cancer institute in our region,” said J. Stephen Jones, president
and CEO of Inova Health System.

The center will use a variety of preventative
resources to help educate patients who may be at high risk for developing
cancer. These resources include education on nutrition, exercise, genetic
testing, and opportunities for clinical trials.
Cancer surpassed cardiovascular disease as the number one killer in America in 2020, Inova states. More than 40 percent of cancer
cases in the United States are attributed to preventable risk factors.
