Inova Health System and the University of Virginia announced an agreement Nov. 2 to form a a comprehensive research and education partnership on Inova’s new campus on Gallows Road across from Fairfax Hospital.
The institutions will collaborate on research, medical education, and the recruitment of eminent scientists to facilitate health innovation. “Together, they will put Virginia at the forefront of discovery, working to advance the science of precision medicine and improve the health of the commonwealth’s citizens,” states an Inova news release.
The two partners will collaborate on the development of a Global Genomics and Bioinformatics Research Institute located at the Inova Center for Personalized Health (ICPH).
The Institute will recruit researchers, scientists, and investigators who will engage in collaborative research focused on genomics, functional biology, bioinformatics, biologically driven engineering, precision medicine, translational research, development of targeted therapeutics, and commercialization of new discoveries.
The two entities will form a cancer research partnership between the Inova Schar Cancer Institute [under the direction of Dr. Donald Trump!] and the UVA Cancer Center and will work to achieve designation by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The agreement calls for a regional campus of the UVA School of Medicine to open at Inova, which would enable UVA medical students to complete their clerkship and post-clerkship education in Northern Virginia at Inova facilities.
UVA and Inova will also explore the creation of a “biomedical investment vehicle” to advance discovery through commercialization. Leaders from the two institutions expect to finalize a definitive agreement later this year.
“We believe that this partnership with UVA, as well as with Inova’s other partners, will drive economic growth and diversification in the region and position the commonwealth of Virginia at the forefront of healthcare, scientific and technological innovation,” said Inova Health System CEO Knox Singleton.
Inova Fairfax Treasure Trove Thrift shop in Annandale has replaced its Manager, Jodi, and will be running the store with Springfield Treasure Trove management.
The customers, consignors and volunteers at the Annandale store will truly miss Jodi and her warm and welcoming management style. Fair winds, friend.
We would do well to convince new folks coming to work in the new Inova campus to put down roots in Annandale to attract more upscale options to this area.
What a stellar opportunity for Fairfax, Annandale in particular, and the University of Virginia.
No need to fight with traffic every day if you work here. Great housing options are abundant close to this facility! The upscale townhomes and condos in Mosaic and Merrifield could be the perfect fit for younger professionals. The convenience of nearby Metro transportation should also be a big draw. The Camelot neighborhood is easily walkable to the hospital. There are some nice neighborhoods just inside the beltway as well. It will be great to have an economic driver in Fairfax that’s not linked to federal government
As someone else mentioned, it's great to have more business industry diversity.
I would like to see a safe, direct bike option from downtown Annandale to INOVA, Mosaic, Dunn Loring Metro and Tysons via Gallows Road. That would open up options for people to travel between these places to live, shop and work without adding more vehicular volume.
