Interim Park to open in September

The plaza area.

Crossroads Interim Park, the new park being developed on the site of a demolished office building at 5827 Columbia Pike in Bailey’s Crossroads, is expected to be completed and open in mid to late September, says Suzianne Battista of the Fairfax County Office of Planning and Development.

So far, some metal benches and a couple of shade sails have been put up on what will be the future plaza area.

A grassy area adjacent to the plaza will be used for open play, and the paved area at the rear could be used for seasonal activities, such as food trucks, a mobile farmers market, or small outdoor festival.

The park is expected to be in place for about five years, until the county decides how the site will be developed. Demolition of the five-story Bailey’s International Center building was completed in December 2018.

The park is a joint project of the Fairfax County Park Authority, Community Revitalization Division, Facilities Management Division, and Department of Public Works and Environmental Services.

  1. This is a disaster, Penny Park will turn into a litter wasteland. I really do not see anything that would draw me to this supposed place of respite. But it will make a very comfy place for our increasing homeless population to loiter.

    1. I'd actually prefer some of the homeless people over a whiner like you. They actually have a reason for their pessimism; your're just a jerk.
