KORUS Festival features K-pop, food, traditional arts, and much more
The Korean-American community is bringing K-pop dance groups, cultural performances, food, and games to Annandale at the 21st annual KORUS Festival.
The festival opened May 4 and is continuing today, 11 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sunday, 11-7, rain or shine, at the K-Market parking lot on John Marr Drive.
Highlights on the stage scheduled for Saturday include a talent show at 1 p.m., a puppet dance at 5:45, and more K-pop and cultural performances throughout the day. Games, art competitions, and a job fair are also on the schedule.
On Sunday, there will be a Senior Superstar singing contest at 1 p.m., the world champion Chun-Jae Park Tai Kown Do team at 5, more performances, games, and of course, K-pop.
The name KORUS reflects Korean-U.S. friendship. The event is hosted by the Korean American Association of Greater Washington. A representative of the Korean Embassy brought greetings, noting that KORUS coincides with Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
Friday events included a rock band, remarks by local leaders, a Vietnamese lion dance, a traditional dance from Bali, a belly dance from India, a bamboo music ensemble from Indonesia, a Korean crown flower dance, a Korean drum group, several K-pop dance teams, and a dance party.
