Loehmann’s Plaza renamed Graham Park Plaza

With
Loehmann’s long gone from Loehmann’s Plaza – the discount clothing company went
out of business last January – Federal Realty Investment Trust, the owner of
the shopping center on Route 50 in Falls Church, is changing its name from Loehmann
s Plaza to “Graham Park Plaza.”

According
to a Sept. 16 press release, new signage will be installed in October. The release says Federal
Realty worked with the Broyhill Park Civic Association to solicit community
input on a new name. Graham Park was selected because the shopping center is
between Graham Road and Parkwood Court. Last
May, Stein Mart moved into the space vacated by Loehmann’s.

  1. Federal Realty, please leave the name alone! The new name sounds silly and has no historical value. It's been Loehmann's Plaza since day 1 and it should stay the same. Nobody cares if the store is there or not.

  2. Here's a suggestion: Falls Camp Plaza. This ties back to the history of the site — the former Falls Church Airpark and, long before that, Camp Alger.

  3. It will be like everything else: newcomers will call it by its new name while "old-timers" will continue to call it Loehmann's (also see "National Airport" & "Arlington Hospital").
