Lots of children’s activities planned for Taste of Annandale

The Blue Sky Puppet Theatre

ACCA Child Development Center Executive Director Maria-Isabel Ballivian has set up an amazing line-up of children’s activities for the Taste of Annandale – including live shows and several activity centers.

The Taste of Annandale – with lots of food vendors, live entertainment, a 5K Race, and much more – is this Saturday, Oct. 1, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., on Tom Davis Drive.

The activities will be at the center’s playground, at 7200 Columbia Pike, across the street from the Taste of Annandale main event. Volunteers will help families cross the street. In case of rain, the activities will be moved indoors.

Here’s the schedule for the stage at the Child Development Center:
10 a.m. – Music and dancing with a DJ
11 a.m. – Blue Sky Puppets present the “The Three Not So Little Pigs”
12 p.m. – Dancing
1 p.m. – Dino Rock presents “Dino Babies”
2 p.m. – Mr. Gabe
3 p.m. – Dancing
4 p.m. – Blue Sky Puppets, “Pig Tales”
5 p.m. – Julio Cuellar, “Multicultural Jungle Party”

Here’s what’s planned for the activity centers:

Literacy center
10 a.m.-6 p.m. – Distribution of books; crafts, including book making and drawing; and book reading. The center plans to give away 2,000 books. A volunteer will read to the children every hour, and there will be plenty of books for kids to read by themselves.

Drama center
10 a.m.-6 p.m. – SOS: Firefighters in Action, A Trip to the Stars, and Medical Emergency. Children can dress up in firefighter suits, build houses out of blocks, and use play hoses to pretend to put out fires. There will be astronaut suits and doctor costumes for similar role-playing games.

Face painting center
10 a.m.-2 p.m. – Face painting
3-6 p.m.- Children’s tattoos.

Pumpkin patch
Representatives from the Vietnamese American Photographic Association will take pictures of children in pumpkin patch scenery.

Open playground activities
10 a.m.-6 p.m. – Sandbox, climbing, and swings.

Throughout the day, there will be a bubble machine and visits from costumed characters, including Curious George, the Cat in the Hat, Mr. Bunny, and others.

One response to “Lots of children’s activities planned for Taste of Annandale

  1. Sounds great! I've only met Ms. Ballivian once, but she struck me as someone really committed to the children in her care and the larger community in general.

    ACCA does good work!
