Man indicted for cold case murder

Jose Larazo Cruz at the time of his wife’s murder and now [FCPD]

A grand jury has indicted Jose Larazo Cruz, 60, for murdering his estranged wife 33 years ago, the office of Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano announced April 15.

Larazo Cruz had been charged with fatally stabbing Ana Jurado, 24, on April 30, 1991, in their home on Cofer Drive in the Falls Church area of Mason District. (He also uses the name Lazaro Cruz).

Police detectives secured a felony murder warrant for Larazo Cruz on May 10, 1991, but he evaded arrest by fleeing to El Salvador.

In July 2022, he was detained by Costa Rican authorities while trying to enter the country from Nicaragua. On Jan. 18, he was surrendered to U.S. Marshals Service custody and extradited to the United States to face charges in Fairfax County. 

The trial date will be set on April 18.

  1. He deserves to die on Death Row after what he did to his wife three decades ago. I hope he recieves that sentence soon. >(

  2. He killed someone and you will never get away with murder. I am so sorry about this families love one. He evaded authorities, and now it is time for him to face the consequences for his actions 34 years later. My sister’s brother was killed 34 years ago too and his killed was his girlfriend. This was 34 years ago too.
