Traffic improvement/safety on Columbia Pike is still being neglected. Install pedestrian hybrid beacons before more lives are lost.
Happens all the time. Police aren’t out there monitoring our roads and pulling over aggressive erratic speeders.
Between sleepy hollow road and gallows there’s not one pedestrian safety device. Along this stretch there is Mason Distract Park, several churches, a nursing home, a senior residence and A Buddhist temple. If we were in Arlington County, which has control of its roads, as opposed to VDOT’s control of this stretch of road, every crossing would have some type of pedestrian control. During Penny Grosses’ reign, I wrote to her pleading for pedestrian controls at Mason Distract Park which she forwarded to VDOT who concluded that there wasn’t enough pedestrian traffic to warrant stricter controls. Not even deaths moves VDOT. Our current supervisor, who has insulated himself, with more intermediaries, is worthless. At least Penny published a newsletter even if most of the information was dated. What’s the solution for this stretch of road. There is none. Run and dodge if you want to cross the street as I do when walking my dog.
Things were much better for Mason district when Penny Gross was in charge – sad to say but its true.
I’ve been here since the 1980s and always thought Penny Gross did nothing, and thought her successor could not possibly do worse.
Then we elected Andres Jimenez. It would be better if he did nothing: The fools he put in key positions, the narrowing of busy roadways, expensive pandering with “art” garbage and street sign changes, putting guards on pickleball courts, neglecting leaf pickup, to name a few issues, defy reason.
I’ll never trade worthless for worse than worthless again.
We have lousy representation here in Mason District. When was the last time ANY improvements have been made to our infrastructure? Not since I moved to Annandale in 1991. Go to the western part of the county — or anywhere in SW Virginia— and they are spending our tax dollars like mad. I pay $9,000 a year in property taxes and countless 1,000s more in state taxes and what do we get in return: Absolutely Nothing. Every house in our district has been remodeled. Homeowners have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on their homes. Yet not a penny has been spent on fixing our 1940s infrastructure. What a ripoff. Our supervisor and VA representative should be chastised at every opportunity. They are useless and should be fired.
Why not have a red light with pedestrian signals at that intersection? There is a lot of traffic going in and out of the park. And for those saying things were much better under Penny Gross, didn’t she have nearly three decades to do something about that intersection?
