Updated 2:35 p.m. A man was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Diamond Lounge at 7203 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, shortly after 2 a.m. this morning, the Fairfax County Police Department reports on Twitter. 

The police identified the victim as Samuel Njikang, 27, of Woodbridge. 

A preliminary investigation indicates Njikang was involved in an altercation with a group of people in the parking lot when he was shot in the upper body. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where he died. 

The conflict happened as the Diamond was closing. The police believe the suspect drove away. They have not revealed information on the number of people involved in the altercation. 

Annandale neighbors have complained on Nextdoor recently about large, noisy gatherings outside the Diamond Lounge. 
 
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
 
This is an active investigation and detectives continue to conduct interviews, process evidence, and canvass the area for witnesses, the FCPD reports. Victim specialists from the Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division have been assigned to ensure the victim’s family is receiving appropriate resources and assistance.

This is the 11th homicide in Fairfax County so far this year.
