Many arts events happening this month

By James Albright
This is the second piece in an ongoing series highlighting community arts activities.
There has been an explosion of new arts events in Mason District, and in Annandale in particular, over the last few years. Long-standing concerts and gatherings are continuing as well, resulting in exciting activities for the community every weekend.
June is a particularly busy month for outdoor events.

The Mason Arts Advisory Council continues to organize activities focusing on a full array of art forms. Following up on a successful social hour for artists last month, there will be another one, sponsored by ArtsFairfax, on June 20, 5-7 p.m., at O’My ChiQ & Bar, 7032 Columbia Pike, Annandale.
Everyone is welcome to attend, especially those with an interest in the arts and their place in our community – but it’s a social event above all.
The Social Hour is followed by a couple of important arts organizing activities. ArtsFairfax will host a Fairfax Regional Artist Survey Community Engagement Event on June 25, 6-8 p.m. ArtsFairfax will present the findings of a survey on the practices and challenges of individual artists and what they need to thrive.
While the event is at the Reston Community Center, it is relevant to art activities throughout Fairfax County. Register here.
Finally, the Mason Arts Council will hold our monthly meeting on June 26, 7-8:30 p.m., at the Mason Government Center. All are welcome to hear about upcoming art activities and to share their work with the engaged group. We hope to see you there!
