Mason Police District honors PFC Kurt Woodward as Officer of the Year

Police Officer First Class Kurt Woodward has been named the Mason Police District 2015 Office of the Year in recognition of his exceptional efforts to keep the community safe.

Station commander, Capt. Christian Quinn, calls Woodward, who works the evening shift, “a conscientious, diligent officer who proactively patrols the Mason District with a genuine intent to make a difference.” 

The Citizen Advisory Committee, which selected Woodward, along with the police station’s command staff, presented a plaque to him and Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club President Pat Borowski presented a $100 gift care and letter of appreciation to Woodward at the March 1 CAC meeting.

Quinn offered a couple of examples of why PFC Woodward deserves the honor: In October  2015 Woodward responded to an unknown situation at a residence on Greenberry Lane in Annandale. An individual who answered the door indicated everything was fine, but Woodward sensed that he was not being honest and there was more going on.

Woodward then heard screaming from the rear of the home. He pushed past him and found a woman who had been tied up and tortured for approximately nine hours. She was transported to the hospital and the man who had answered the door was arrested.

“PFC Woodward chose to look beyond a simple call, investigate further, and in turn saved the life of an innocent woman,” Quinn says.

In November 2015, police officers were urged to look out for a stolen vehicle that had been used in an armed robbery in the City of Fairfax.

Woodward spotted the vehicle, attempted to stop it, and a pursuit ensued, ending at Gallows Road and Annandale Road where the suspects crashed. Woodward and other responding police apprehended the three subjects that were in the car.

An investigation revealed that they are suspects in more than a dozen armed robberies of gas stations in the region. They face federal charges from the United States Attorney’s for the Eastern District of Virginia.
