Meet the artist creating a mural in Annandale

A mural by Pepe Gaka in Hot Springs, Ark.

The community is invited to meet muralist Giuseppe Percivati (also known as Pepe Gaka) at the Art Appreciation Festival on Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Eileen Garnett Civic Space.

Attendees will get a sneak peek of the mural Pepe Gaka will create on the wall of the ACCA building. He will start working on the mural before the end of the month, weather permitting. It is expected to be completed in time for the Taste of Annandale on Sept. 21.

The Art Appreciation Festival is 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The Eileen Garnett Civic Space is located at 7200 Columbia Pike between the ACCA building and the Annandale Fire Station.

During the event, Pepe Gaka will organize a hands-on mural demonstration on the retaining wall between the parking lot and civic space’s plaza area. He will mock-up the design in advance, and community members will be able to fill it in, like a paint-by-numbers project. Brushes and aprons will be provided.

The community is also invited to join Community Art For Everyone (CAFE) in creating the “Tree of Regeneration,” a community sculpture, at the Art Appreciation Festival.

“Using recycled industrial materials like pipes, wires, and reclaimed building materials, we’ll breathe new life into these objects, transforming them into a vibrant symbol of sustainability and creativity,” CAFE states.

The Art Appreciation Festival is hosted by the Fairfax County Community Revitalization Section. The event features an art exhibit, demonstrations by local artists, interactive workshops, and activities for kids.
