Megamart Supermarket to open in Annandale

Megamart, a grocery store focusing on the Hispanic community, is expected to open in Annandale in late February or early March.

The store is located at 4415 John Marr Drive in the space formerly occupied by Party Co and AnnSandra.

Megamart offers “the best prices and the best quality of food,” says Jose Valasquez, the manager of the Megamart in Arlington. The Annandale location will be the 12th store in the Megamart chain. There’s also one in Alexandria; the rest are in Maryland.

The Annandale Megamart will have a bakery, butcher, pharmacy, and a selection of hot, prepared foods.

Checkout counters and shelves are being set up.

“We try to get the Spanish community involved as much as possible,” Velasquez said. The Arlington store donated food and gave out coupons during the pandemic. That effort netted the store an Outstanding Community Service Award from the Arlington County government.

Megamart provides free transportation home to customers who spend a certain amount of money; at the Arlington store, that’s $70, Velasquez says. That’s a big help to people who take a bus to the store but don’t want to carry a load of groceries home on the bus.

He expects the Annandale store will have a big grand opening celebration with live music.

  1. I’m very familiar with this area, specifically the wedge of land this store is on. Where are we supposed to park?

  2. Well the delivery trucks and barely capable drivers turning across traffic will make that already dangerous area of John Marr a snarl. Let’s add a few dozen morons with face in phone dressed in black – pedestrian versus car predicted within a month of opening … Oh also that chain is a notorious generator of neighborhood trash flying from their dumpsters. Whoopi for more trash in Annandale.

  3. Not a good location at all. 5 total parking spaces and the cars flying around that corner gonna cause a couple accidents a month. The traffic nightmares will be unbearable at this section once this place is opened. The smell and the trash this place cause will drop the value of the businesses and homes behind this shopping center. This business just turned the area into the ghetto already. Spitting facts, prove me otherwise.

  4. The opening of this business is negative all the way around. There’s no parking in that corner of the shopping center which will cause a whole bunch of traffic for people that’s just traveling on that road which is one lane in each side. People will park in the street because some people just don’t like rules or care. The market will make the housing market behind it go down as well as the businesses since they don’t care to clean their trash. If you’ve seen the other locations you know what I’m taking about. Not making the neighborhood great again by having the market opening at this location.

    1. You’re right, there’s plenty of parking but no parking available due to the shopping plaza next door parking their cars there. Hopefully the owners of this plaza will tow their cars

  5. A grocery store opening up is going to turn an area that isn’t all that special into a ghetto? That is ridiculous.

  6. Can’t believe the negativity. Perhaps, we can make Annandale great again by not attracting new businesses or private investment. Let’s just keep stores vacant and perpetuate an ever-decreasing tax base. Who needs new job opportunities or economic growth? At best, let’s only strive for opening irrelevant restaurants or vape/tobacco/marijuana paraphernalia shops. That will make DLT and Suc Madiq (by the way, very creative nickname) happy. Hey, here’s an idea for you guys. Get the folks behind the casino for Tysons Corner to look at Annandale.

  7. Don’t worry 😉 your new president will kick you out of USA, so this and many other stores 🏬 will go down
