Moby Dick House of Kabob coming to Annandale

A Moby Dick House of Kabob fast-casual Persian restaurant is coming to Annandale. It will be located in the new building in the EastGate shopping center parking lot on John Marr Drive.

The restaurant is expected to open within the next few months. The goal is 90 days, but it’s hard to tell, due to the possibility of unforeseen circumstances, says Alex Momeni, Moby Dick’s chief operating officer.

The menu includes chicken, beef, lamb, salmon, and veggie kabobs; dolmeh, salads; various Persian dishes, pita wraps; falafel, baklava, and saffron ice cream.

The Moby Dick in Annandale will have indoor and outdoor seating. Diners order at the counter or online through a new, improved app.

The restaurant doesn’t have a waitstaff and doesn’t sell alcohol. It will have big jugs where customers can create custom-flavored drinks.

Like other new Moby Dick restaurants, the Annandale location will have a post-pandemic design with a Moby minimarket, Momeni says. Customers will be able to pick up ready-to-go meals, hummus and dips in large containers, and pantry items, like bags of rice.

The Moby Dick House of Kabob chain was started by Iranian immigrant Mike Daryoush, after he opened Moby’s Luncheonette in 1989 in Bethesda. There are now 13 Moby Dick restaurants in Virginia, four in D.C., and seven in Maryland.

  1. Without a karaoke sign out front I’m not sure how well they will do in Annandale so close to 38th parallel

  2. Yum! Nice to have some healthier options and while I like Korean and other Asian food, this adds to the variety in town.

        1. Um…not “who cares”.

According to their menu, everything is halal except for the gyros. I would double check though, when you order.

        2. both of yall are dead wrong 💀 im a muslim like many people in annandale and halal food options DO matter. maybe just not say anything next time instead of being ignorant?

      1. i care, and the 1000’s of Muslims in Annandale and the surrounding area do too. nobody cares if you or any of the other unconditional racists do or not. thank you for being so much help.

  3. I’m sure Food Corner across the street will remain supreme in kabob tastiness, but this is a nice addition to the area.

      1. Check Moby’s menu. 18-22$ for a Kabob combo. Bit more than what I paid at Food Corner a few months ago. And Food Corner’s portions are generous. Neither are cheap eats, but you get what you pay for.

  4. Other locations of this chain serve very good food so this new location is likely to be quite competitive with other kabob restaurants in and near Annandale. The menu clearly indicates which meat items are Halal and which items are gluten free. There are also vegetarian menu items. I’m planning to try it out once it opens!

  5. Love the Moby Dick in Shirlington! Now I won’t have to drive so far. Happy to look forward to this in the hood.
