Target, other stores in Merrifield’s Mosaic District to open next October

If you haven’t been to the new Mosiac District multi-use project in Merrifield, you’ll be surprised at how much progress is going on. Target, the Angelika Film Center, and some of the other stores are scheduled to open in October 2012.
The sales office for the 112 townhouses developed by EYA opened yesterday. The model homes are expected to open in May, with construction of the 112 units continuing for 20 to 24 months.
Prices range from $577,400 for a four-level, three-bedroom unit with two and a half bathrooms, rooftop terrace, and one-car garage to $762,620 for a three-level end unit with three-bedrooms two and a half bathrooms, family room, rec room, large roof terrace, and two-car garage.

Homeowners would pay a $149 monthly fee covering snow and trash removal, landscaping, lighting, a shuttle to the Dunn Loring Metro station, and access to a fitness center. The public schools serving the development are Fairhill Elementary, Luther Jackson Middle, and Falls Church High School. The Mosaic District will also include 531 luxury apartments to be developed by Avalon Bay.
The most recent store to sign on to the project is Neiman Marcus Last Call Studio, which is expected to be similar to Saks Fifth Avenue’s discount offshoot called Off Fifth. That store will be in the same block as Target, which will occupy the upper floors.
Street level retail on that block will also include Dawn Price Baby, an offshoot of the high-end baby goods store in Georgetown and Capitol Hill; Artisan Confections, a chocolate shop from Clarendon; Cava Grill, a Mediterranean and tapas restaurant from Bethesda; Taylor Gourmet, with three locations in Washington and one in Bethesda; My Eye Dr.; Eagle Bank; and space for seven more stores not yet leased.

The block with the Angelika Film Center, a movie theater from New York City that offers a mix of mainstream and art house films, will have Matchbox, “a vintage pizza bistro,” with several locations including three in D.C.; Cyclone Anaya’s, a Mexican restaurant from Texas; and space for four more stores.
On another block, anchored by a Hotel Sierra, part of the Hyatt chain, spaced has been leased by MOM’s Organic Market, a grocery store with several locations in the region including Herndon and Alexandria; Red Apron Butchery; Black’s Restaurant Group, which operates several restaurants in D.C. and Maryland; Lou Lou, a jewelry and accessory boutique with locations in D.C., Virginia, and Maryland; and Paper Source, a nationwide stationery chain with stores in Alexandria and Georgetown. Additional retail, parking decks, and other projects are also planned for the Mosaic District.

Eight homes were sold Jan. 15, reports EYA Marketing Director Jennifer McIvor.
Why cant something like this be done in Annandale? It should have been planned before.
Unlike Merrifield, most of central Annandale is chopped up into very small land parcels, so property owners would have to agree to consolidate.
Annandale was dealt a blow when the Fuds lease was up and the owner of the property decided to sign a drive-thru wal greens or rite aid (i forget which one)
Fuds is leaving?
Too bad the road improvements really are not helping the traffic in this area. The Gallows/Rte. 29/Rte. 50 area is still clobbered. Sure, put in more homes, with little road engineering.
Build it they will come…make more traffic…what else is new for the area…why would I pay to live above all that racket??…seems Merrifield will become the new
Hollywood and Vine…
Are they going to put in any decent grocery stores near merrifield area?? we don't have much in the area! And I don't mean these small expensive organic shops!
H MART, which I would consider better than decent, is right next door to the Mosaic District. Rte 7 isn't that far away, either, if you are looking for mainstream, prepackaged stuff.
