The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors established a $5 million fund to assist nonprofit organizations whose primary work supports social safety net services for vulnerable populations.
The application process for Nonprofit Sustainability Grants begins May 15. The deadline to apply is 2 p.m. on May 22.
The Nonprofit Sustainability Grants program is aimed at keeping nonprofits operating during the coronavirus pandemic.
The program is open to 501(c)3 and 501(c)19 organizations that provide support to vulnerable populations in the areas of financial stability, food and nutrition, education, literacy, health, housing, positive behavior and healthy relationships, or community and social networks.
The organizations should primarily focus on people in Fairfax County with limited income, immigrants and refugees, people with disabilities, or people who are historically subject to disparate access to opportunities.
Grants are available in three amounts – $25,000, $50,000, and $75,000 – depending on the size of the organization and its operating budget.
Grant funds can be used for employee retention, equipment and materials, rent, debt payments, and technology upgrades.
Funds for the program come from the federal CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) Act. This program is administered by the Fairfax County Department of Procurement and Material Management and the Department of Neighborhood and Community Services.
