New grocery store offers free rides to shoppers

Megamart, the new Latin American supermarket on John Marr Drive in Annandale, offers free rides to shoppers.
Anyone who spends more than $75 can get a free ride home, says assistant manager Nestor Flores. The store will even pick up customers at home if they intend to spend $75.

Employees at the exit hand out free items to shoppers who spent more than $50.
Megamart specializes in products from Central America, focusing on items imported from Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and El Salvador, Flores says. There are plenty of American staples and products from other Latin American countries, too.
The store has an in-house bakery, butcher, fish market, a whole aisle full of spices and dried peppers, cookware, and a ready-to-eat section with meals made in the store. The produce section has lots of fruits and vegetables that might be unfamiliar to non-Hispanics.

There are two separately owned small businesses inside the store – a jewelry shop and a phone repair and accessory shop.
Megamart is located in a space that had been occupied by Party Co and AnnSandra.
