New houses proposed for Gallows Road

Eight single-family homes would be demolished to make way for new houses on Gallows Road.

A proposal has been submitted to the county to develop 22 single-family detached homes on Gallows Road across from Woodburn Elementary School and Holmes Run Acres.

Madison Homes is requesting a rezoning classification from R-2 to Planned Development Housing (PDH-4) for the 5.5-acre site.

The site consists of eight parcels occupied by single-family homes– five on Gallows Road and three on Libeau Lane. Madison Homes has already purchased one parcel – adjacent to the Raintree townhomes – and has the remaining seven under contract, according to a statement of justification submitted by land use attorney Lynne Strobel of Walsh Colucci.

The proposal calls for a new road within the development, 1.7 acres of open space, a new 10-foot-wide shared trail along Gallows Road, and stormwater management.

The new development would have one access point on Gallows Road. Seven existing curb cuts along Gallows Road would be eliminated.

The community would have 88 parking spaces, including a two-car garage at each home and room for two additional cars in each driveway.

The proposal was first put forth last year as part of the Site-Specific Plan Amendment process. The Board of Supervisors agreed to add the project to the Comprehensive Plan Work Program in April.

  1. Any additional housing is good. I’d rather see them put 50 townhouses there. But 22 single families certainly better than eight

  2. Someone better alert Attorney Strobel about the new blue bike rack requirement. I want those blue bike racks.

  3. Gook luck to the remaining community on turning onto Gallows Road. It is next to impossible now… just imagine how much better it will be with more cars.

      1. There we go again . Not even a baby from Mike Tyson and Ali will punch that traffic out of gallows rd . It is what it is . You don’t want traffic … Move to 2 hours from the dc area .

  4. I am a Raintree resident which is next to the proposed development. I am glad for one trashy house next to Raintree to be removed.
I hope there will remain a good number of trees bordering our property for privacy. We are also concerned about the storm water management as its water empties into our property.

    1. I heard that this is the only chance for RainTree to get any kind of stormwater management since back in the early 70s when it and Gallows Estates were built I guess that wasn’t taken into consideration. The county regulates a lot more now then back then. This development is a positive in many ways. I’m glad it won’t be 50 townhouses, and I doubt VDOT will put a light in, but at least they will do their best whatever that is. Now if they’d re-close Trammell Road guiding traffic from across 236 through the neighborhoods to Gallows Road, that could probably help… that created a lot of cut through traffic. Too bad the express lanes don’t have access from the 236 bridge, that could help. There are options, some less costly then others.
