New shop specializes in grass jelly drinks

Seven Corners has a new shop specializing in Chinese grass jelly drinks.

Shuyi Grass Jelly & Tea is located at 6122-B Arlington Blvd. in the Willston Shopping Center.

Grass jelly is made from the leaves and stalks of a certain kind of plant grown in China. Grass jelly drinks at Shuyi also have organic milk and fresh fruit, says franchise owner Xueqian Wan. The shop uses tea leaves, not powdered tea. He says Shuyi is a famous brand in China, and the Seven Corners shop is the first one in the D.C. region.

Grass jelly drinks have strong health benefits, and are especially good for the digestive tract after eating spicy foods, Wan says.

Some of the other items at Shuyi Grass Jelly & Tea include matcha bubble milk, Ovaltine crunchy chocolate smoothie, avocado coconut tea, and mango milk smoothie. There is no food on the menu.

Shuyi Grass Jelly & Tea is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Friday and 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
