Nursing home patient sexually assaulted

Fairfax County police arrested a 55-year-old Fairfax man for assaulting a patient at the Sleepy Hollow Healthcare Center at 6700 Columbia Pike in Annandale at about 11 a.m. on May 26.

Geoffrey Smallwood, a patient at the skilled-nursing facility since November 2017, was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery against a victim suffering from mental incapacity or physical helplessness.

He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and is being held without bond.

Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department’s Major Crimes Bureau and Forensics Bureau have been at the facility this week interviewing witnesses and staff, contacting family members, and providing victim services. They believe there could be additional victims.
