Ossian Hall Park showcases world cultures

Young performers at Chinese Cultural Heritage Night at Ossian Hall Park.

Enjoy a musical experience featuring a different culture Saturday
evenings all summer long at Ossian Hall Park, 7900 Heritage Drive, Annandale.
The first show of the year was June 7, featuring music and
dance from China. Tonight’s show, at 7:30 p.m., offers a glimpse into the
rhythms and beats of West Africa.
Mason Supervisor Penny Gross (center) opens the concert series at Ossian Hall Park June 7. With her are Lassine Doumbia, the organizer of the shows, and Elsa Ma, a leader in the local Chinese community.
These shows are part of the Mason District’s Spotlight by Starlight series, which also includes three evening performances a week at Mason
District Park (Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays) plus several Saturday morning
children’s shows throughout the summer.
The next show at Mason District Park, tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.,
features Russian music from the Washington Balalaika Orchestra.
The Mason District Park auditorium has benches, although
many people bring their own chairs. At Ossian, it’s lawn seating only, so it’s
best to bring a blanket or chair. It it’s raining, the concerts area cancelled. If there’s a
threat of rain, call 703-324-7469, before heading out the door.
