Parents begin organizing PTA for new elementary school

Annandale’s new elementary school isn’t completed yet but parents are already starting to get organized. Parents whose children will attend the K-15 school are invited to a meeting next Thursday, Nov. 15, 7 p.m., at Falls Church High School to talk about setting up a new PTA.

The school’s attendance area was approved by the Fairfax County School Board in July as part of a regional plan that changed the boundaries for many other elementary, middle, and high schools in the Annandale area. The school, at the end of Crest Drive in the Broyhill Crest neighborhood, will draw students from Woodburn, Beechtree, Belvedere, and Annandale Terrace elementary schools.

Construction is a little behind schedule, but the school should be completed well before it opens for the start of the 2012 school year. The principal selection process is well under way.
The driveways, parking lot, and sidewalks are mostly done, says Joseph Krzywicki, the on-site field construction representative for Fairfax County Public Schools. The exterior brickwork should be finished in a couple of weeks. The metal roof and interior walls are mostly finished, and work is under way on the mechanical units and ceramic tiles in the kitchen and bathrooms.
