Days after a toddler fells
to his death from the 24th floor of the Skyline Towers, the parents
of another child who died in a similar accident just over two months ago are suing the building’s owners and managers, according to a report on
WUSA Channel 9.

A 2-year-old boy was
pronounced dead on Aug. 13 after he fell from a balcony at 5601 Skyline Towers
North in Bailey
s Crossroads. Three years ago, a little girl survived after falling through a window
on the fifth floor.
Now the parents of Syed Zaidi, age 3, who fell through
a window screen on the 26th floor of Skyline Towers North on May 30 are suing Skyline Towers and
Equity Residential Properties

They are seeking $100 million in damages for alleged
negligence and wrongful death.

Syed’s parents are
demanding the apartment managers do more to keep children safe. “It’s not about the money. It’s not
about the lawsuit,” Syed Rasheed Zaidi, the boy’s father, told WUSA.

“I
want answers,” he said. “What did they do after the first incident? What did
they do after the second incident? What did they do after the third incident?
Are we waiting for another one?”

  1. My heart aches for these families. May they somehow find peace and comfort.

Skyline Towers were built in the early '80s, I believe, and I have to wonder if the windows have ever been upgraded. Sadly, I suspect that I already know the answer.

  2. If they win spend the $100 million on upgrading the windows and watching your kids more closely. Skyline Tower #2 completely collapsed in 1973 killing dozens.

  3. The problem with requiring the building owner to redo all the windows is going to be a problem. If the building still has the Windows from when the building was built then the Windows and all safety requirements for the Windows do not need to be replaced. Virginia law does not require property owners to bring the building up to to days codes.

    It's very sad what happened.

  4. So when do parents take on the responsibility for keeping their children safe? There were at least two other incidents! Why wouldn't YOU, the parent, do something to keep them safe? YOU chose to have a child. That child's safety is YOUR responsibility. I am sad that these families have suffered such loss. Especially sad for the 1st family as the has no prior knowledge of the weakness. The second family had access to prior knowledge but probably did not do the research on the building before entering into a contract to live there. But the third?!? The second incident happened close enough to this one that those parents should have taken steps to protect their child! It is NOT the building owners' responsibility!

    1. WOW. Aiming so much anger and resentment at grieving parents is not only inappropriate, it's also UGLY.

Based on all that you've unleashed here, I really doubt your compassion for any of these families. Fear not, though: they will mourn their children's deaths every single day for the rest of their lives.

I agree with you there is no personal responsibility here at all. It wasn't 3 months ago another kid, they KNEW there was a risk and there was a consequence to not watching their kids more closely. This FACT is not to negate the sadness of the situation which is what Anonymous9/2/18, 11:35 PM wanted to attack you for. Anger is for the death of the child which shouldn't have happened.
