Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash

There was a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run crash on the northbound I-495 service road heading toward Route 50 at about 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 24, the Virginia State Police reports.

The pedestrian, Douglas C. Haskett II, 55, of Ashburn, was struck by a Chevrolet Traverse.  Haskett died at the scene. 

During the course of the crash investigation, Fairfax County Police notified the state police that they had received a call from the driver of the Chevrolet.

State police responded to the driver’s location in a parking garage in the Mosaic District and charged the driver, Brian C. Diffell, 46, of Falls Church, with one felony count of hit-and-run.
