A pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene after being struck by a vehicle on Arlington Boulevard near Annandale Road early this morning, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.

Again……..sigh!!!! Was this pedestrian error or another one of those aggressive drivers that the Virginia Dept of Tragedy, BoS and our state legislators don’t want to do anything about?
I’d say we prioritize ourselves. Always in rush and feeling entitled to drive reckless because why not? There are no consequences! No one seems to care about anyone but themselves. The way we treat each other around here is disgusting. Clearly human life means less than not driving like any part of the DMV is Formula 1.
This is what happens when we spend the last half century prioritizing an inefficient mode of transportation while simultaneously ignoring changing demographics. Now we have an extremely dangerous, poorly functioning transportation landscape and it is only getting worse.
Tomorrow starts today, and we need to get serious about prioritizing a transportation future that will work better for us.
Build rapid transit in Fairfax County. Build transit oriented development in Fairfax County.
I drive slow, especially at night. I worry about hit someone who is wearing dark colored or black clothing. Even when there are street lights. Primarily because I’ve seen to many drivers & pedestrians thin traffic laws don’t apply to them.
I sent an e-mail to ‘[email protected]’ on the 12th of December and asked that it be forwarded to Captain Adcock if this was not a good e-mail for him; I have heard nothing. Below is what I suggested–just for some thoughts, which could be followed up–
Suggestion for schools, local employers, “ALL that are walking after dark, or scooters, bicycles riders. Wear WHITE, drivers cannot see pedestrians, scooters and bicycles.” How about schools and business owners running contests for the best/neatest signs that can be duplicated and posted in schools, businesses, home complexes, grocery stores, targets everywhere, showing wearing white after dark. Deliver to all residents. That would be great for helping fewer drivers – pedestrians’ hits, bicycle riders and scooter riders. Emphasize do not use phones while crossing streets, watch for vehicles. Start in the classrooms — have contests!
Not included in e-mail: I do believe WE had more telephone pole lights, on residential streets also.
Not sure if this was on the driver or the pedestrian, but I’ve noticed several reckless people just crossing the roads without any regard for vehicles coming. This morning, a guy crossed the street on a busy Little River turnpike near the 495 exit without any care. Caused several cars to break. Could of been a bad accident waiting to happen. He was not far from a crosswalk either.

why are so many people getting hit lately? this whole year has just been pedestrian vehicle deaths

How about signs telling drivers to pay attention to the road in front of them, and to adhere to speed limits.
If you cannot see pedestrians, cyclists, or scooters, at any point in the day, you should NOT be driving.
