  1. One other thing to remember is that pedestrians NEED to wear some sort of reflective clothing when they walk at night and specially when crossing all roads. I’ve seen too many people wearing dark colors and it is really hard to see them at night specially when some cross the roads where they are not supposed to!

    1. Yep in the winter time you should really have clothes with reflectors built in. For instance, my heavy jacket has a reflective strip on the back so I do not worry about being caught crossing a street after sunset

    2. The pedestrian was probably crossing at a legal pedestrian crossing, given the location. Take your pro-car bias and stuff it.

  2. Not sure the woman is the victim. The bus driver may be the victim.

    Let me explain.

If someone tries to stab multiple people and is shot by police, the knifeperson is not a victim, but the perpetrator.

Similarly, if a person jaywalks, steps in front of a bus in dark clothes in the middle of the night, that person is not a victim, but the perpetrator (of a crime).

The victim in this example is the bus driver and the innocent people riding on the bus.

  3. We need to slow down! When you are driving to approach a crosswalk reduce speed . It would help to have the flashing lights at each crosswalk. VDOT needs to ensure this happen. The safe street polucy is not working to avoid fatal accident. We need to enforce hand free use of cell phone. Slow down and proceed with caution at the crosswalk.

  4. I try to avoid that stretch. Look at it in the night. It’s DARK. How about some decent lighting, VDOT? Otherwise, both the driver and the pedestrian are victims.

    1. Every time I pass through there on Hummer, I marvel at what a terrible intersection it is. It badly needs a roundabout or similar – let alone a pedestrian solution.

      1. Yes, but what we REALLY need there is a mixed-use buildup because, you know, more is always better and there’s SO MUCH space to be had! That will fix all our old problems and won’t cause any new ones at all.

  5. The other day, I was driving south on Patrick Henry Drive, where Justice HS busses drive on. I came out of my home drive, (one lane on both sides) until you reach route seven; then you have two lanes for left turn only and right lane for straight and right. Again I turned left to head towards Barcroft Lake, in my one lane; the bus is in my lane heading right towards me!! The bus driver was in my lane; before there was the two lanes for the bus to turn left on route seven. Not NICE — I am truly glad that I am alive to write this. Some of the school bus drivers are driving way too fast and obviously feel “they are special”. I hope ‘this bus driver’ is reading this and ‘backs off’ and starts playing by the laws of the roads.
