Pedestrian struck and killed in Annandale

A 77-year-old woman has died after being struck by a car at 10 p.m. April 26 near the intersection of Little River Turnpike and Backlick Road in Annandale.

Detectives from the Fairfax County County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit have preliminarily determined that Choon Yoo, of Annandale, was crossing Little River Turnpike from north to south outside of the crosswalk.

The driver of a 2011 Toyota Corolla struck Yoo while traveling east on Little River Turnpike. The driver remained at the scene of the crash. Yoo was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

“Preliminarily, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. The investigation remains active,” the FCPD states.

This is the fourth pedestrian fatality in the county so far in 2021.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact the Crash Reconstruction Unit at 703-280-0543. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Solvers.

  1. I'm so sad to hear about this. I don't want to sound judgemental, but I have to wonder why anyone 77 years old was out at 10 pm. That's disconcerting to me.

Again, though, I wish to send my condolences to Ms. Yoo's family, as well as to the driver. May you all find peace and healing.

    1. Wow, amazingly judgemental!

Probably walking over to a friend's house or something.

All decent people are in bed by 10, and seniors shouldn't be out at all…

    2. That's absolutely not what I meant.

I remain saddened for everyone involved. My heart goes out to them in the hopes that time will ease their grief.

  2. The time of day and the age doesn't matter. How about learning how to properly and safely cross a street? It's not rocket science.

    1. Judging by the way some ppl drive, walk and in general, carry themselves around this area – not everyone is capable of executing these tasks successfully.

Were you ever stuck behind a Lexux going 15mph in a 35mph road for 10 minutes?
Did you ever waited a traffic light on a right turn because the minivan in front of you was hogging the turn lane?
