Planning Commission approves medical building on Evergreen Lane
The Fairfax County Planning Commission on Sept. 24 recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve the development of a two story medical building on Evergreen Lane in Annandale proposed by Quan Q. Nguyen and Ngan T. Nguyen.
The new two-story 5,516-square foot building would replace an old 1,260-square foot one and a-half story house that Quan Nguyen has been using for a medical office for the past 30 years. According to the staff report from the Department of Planning and Zoning, the new structure would look like a single-family house.
The county’s Comprehensive Plan allows professional office uses along this portion of Evergreen Lane in existing single-family structures as long as the buildings retain the appearance of single-family houses. The existing building, constructed in the 1941, is the only one along that street that has not been replaced by a larger structure.
The Nguyen’s are seeking a zoning special exception to allow a medical facility in a residential area. The property is zoned R-5 (five residential houses per acre).
The new building would have 10 employees, including two physicians. There would be 20 parking spaces. Hours of operation would be limited to 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays.
The next step is a Board of Supervisors public hearing. A hearing date hasn’t been set.

I'll miss the old medical building when it's gone. Perhaps it's not saying much, but it's easily some of Annandale's best architecture.
Here's hoping whatever goes up in its place will be a bit more inventive than the PoMo neocolonial mishmashes replacing everything in the area.

Pretty sure 2:03 meant commercial/public architecture … and they're right … I never imagined 21st century architecture would be so uniformly ugly.
More traffic for Evergreen Lane.
I think they're just expanding and upgrading space for their existing practice, so not much more traffic. Plus, I've never seen Evergreen backed up much.
