Police seek man wanted for sexual assault

Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department’s Major Crimes Bureau are asking the public to help locate a man involved in two sexual assaults in the Seven Corners area of Mason District. 

A victim came forward in December to report she was sexually assaulted in April on the stairwell of an apartment complex in the 6100 block of Leesburg Pike. 

Earlier this month, a second victim came forward to report a sexual assault that occurred on Jan. 3 at the same location. In both assaults, the victims were lured to the location through social media chatrooms. 

Investigations revealed that Joel Serrano Chicas, 21, was responsible for both assaults. Warrants were obtained on Jan. 23 for indecent liberties with a minor and rape. 

Serrano Chicas had been living in the Falls Church area, but detectives believe he has since left. He is 5’5″ and 140 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. 

Anyone with information about his whereabouts or who had inappropriate contact with Serrano Chicas is asked to contact the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 3. Anyone who sees him should immediately call 911 or the police non-emergency number, 703-691-2131.
